The Tooth Fairy is not real!
It started out as such a cute story. A friend of mine was telling me how her little girl just lost her first tooth. And, after explaining the concept behind the Tooth Fairy, the little girl decided that, not only did she want the loot, but she would also like to keep her first tooth. (I can only assume it would be to sell it on Ebay and make double the profit.) So she sat down with her mom, and they wrote a letter to the Tooth Fairy, asking politely if she would kindly leave the cash and the tooth. How dear.
This friend then explained that while she intended to leave $5 under the pillow, neither her nor her husband had a five dollar bill so instead they left a sawbuck! Yes, $10 !!
What..what..what??! I had no idea the going tooth rate had escalated along with the housing market. I’m pretty sure as a kid, the underneath of my pillow only saw whatever loose change that my dad had in his pocket. I am going to have to explain to my child that, with interest rates being so low, the Tooth Fairy was able to increase her dollar per tooth output; however most experts are predicting the bicuspid bubble will soon burst and prices will fall drastically.
And speaking of losing teeth, what do you do with the teeth after you swipe them from the pillow? Throw the out? Pour Coke on them and watch them decay? Make a little molar mobile? Maybe they will explain all this in Parenting class tonight.

I will keep Kira's first tooth out of every set. The rest will probably get thrown in the trash. Though having now just said that, makes me feel like a terrible mother.. and suddenly I do not want to ask my mother what she did with my teeth. :\ I tell you what though, I'm a cheap woman, no $10 teeth in this family!
My husband introduced the idea of a traveling tooth fairy - each specializes, of course. There's the one who leaves Canadian money, the one who leaves a cool toothbrush and toothpaste, the one who leaves gold Sacagawea dollars, and for this last tooth, the one who leaves two-dollar bills. We've kept them all thus far - although I remember moving as a child and having a bag of teeth fall on me from the hall closet, NOT an experience to replicate.
First tooth out of "every set"? How many sets do they have and lose?!
That sounds like a great idea. I am going to leave very obscure things like a picture of Re-run from What's Happening or maybe Costco membership card.

Reading these comments, I can't help but laugh. After years of honing my snooping technique to a fine art, one day while my parents were at work, just out of curiosity, I looked through my mom's jewelry box (not to steal anything, I just liked trying her bling on). Much to my surprise, I was not only thumbing through rings and necklaces, but about 30 tiny teeth too. CSI would have had a field day. Apparently, she had kept all of my teeth, and all my brother's as well. I don't know what kind of sentimental value they had to her, but it was traumatic for me. That taught not me to poke my fingers where they don't belong. -Lisette :)
